had a party at work today. before the party a friend/colleague gave me a total make over, and covered my face with make up. she was afraid i'd feel lika a clown, but i actually didn't (even though i can't even remember the last time i wore make up...). we missed the games and fun at the beginning of the party (not by mistake), and arrived just in time for the food. which i didn't like. but i found nice bread and cheese, so i didn't starve. then there was some dancing and some gossiping and some complaining and some embarrasing discussions and different amounts of alcohol. i didn't manage to get drunk enough to really enjoy it, but it was ok. after a while a colleague/friend fell down a chair and hurt his head and almost died. so he went to hospital and i went home. i came home exactly at midnight... does it really count as a party then?

and i was called to go to a job interview today

and tomorrow we're going to my parents with the cats

and on monday we're going to paris for a week

i just rediscovered how wonderful it is to bike as fast as you can with closed eyes and open mouth in the rain. i *wish* i could bike without holding the handlebars, as holding out the arms in the air would probably make it even greater

i finished work early today, and went to the city to see if someone had the time to cut my hair. "only me... and i'm just a student..." said the sweet little girl i asked. i didn't mind her being a student, as i'm quite used to being practised on (when it comes to haircuts). she smiled, said "really?" and sounded surprised. i guess i should have seen that as a bad sign...

when she had found her scissors she started cutting. after a while she went to get one of the real hairdressers to inspect her work so far. the real hairdresser cut all my hair all over again, and said (jokingly i guessed, but she didn't smile) to the student "you could just go outdoors and die". then the student got back to the cutting. after a loooong time it was time for an inspection again. the real hairdresser took a quick look at my hair, and told the student to go and mix something in another room. then she started cutting. she said she was only making some small adjustments, and that i wouldn't even notice the difference, you could only see it if you had a trained eye for haircuts. i admit my eyes are not very trained at all, but they did notice that after the slight adjustments the hair was about 5 cm shorter than before, including the fringe (which means i look like i've been cut by a five-year-old). i didn't see the student again, to thank her for the haircut and the nice chat. she was a sweet girl though, and i hope the real hairdresser wasn't angry with her...

when i got home i made taco pie. i've been nagging about that for days, and finally tommy agreed to have it. i made two mistakes: 1) i looked at the wrong recipe, and started mixing the ingredients for scones instead of pie. i decided that was actually a good thing, as scones are good. and i thought that cooking a pie *and* baking scones at the same time would make me an extra good wife. 2) i forgot the scones in the oven. tommy noticed it when he started to smell the smoke...

update to previous post: my mother is away selling pigs. so i couldn't be nice to her. and now i'll probably forget to call her back later. so i've been mean to my husband, and will probably forget to talk to my mother on her birthday. all in one day. can you be much more horrible than that? i'll have to go downstairs and say something nice to my husband right now.

it's not my intention to be disagreeable, but i know i often am... right now i'm irritated with my husband, even though i know that's not nice at all. we went to ikea this weekend, and bought ourselves a little table to move around in our tiny little kitchen. i love putting together things from ikea. it's like kindereggs in bigger scale (although without the chocolate). but today tommy decided to help me with the table, and it only took about 10 minutes before i turned into sulky-five-year-old-erika-who-wants-to-do-everything-herself. it's no fun putting together ikea tables with tommy. he wants the screws to be straight. and he wants to use electrical screw drivers. and drill new holes. and he gets irritaded when the table turns out to be unsteady. where's the fun in that? what irritates me most is that he did it to be nice... he was working on the woodworks in his music room, and came by to see how i was doing. and apparently he didn't think it looked very well... the result: an unsteady little table ashamed in the kitchen, probably wishing somebody else would have bought it. a poor little husband who just wanted to help, but didn't even get a thank you. and me, the irritated wife, angrily marching upstairs to phone my mother on her birthday. at least i remember that. otherwise i would really be a horrible horrible person... as soon as the worst of my irritation goes away i'll go downstairs and thank him for the help. but if i tried now it wouldn't sound sincere... i'm *so* glad i don't have to live with someone like me!!

yellow mushrooms are marching across our garden. i don't know if they are coming from the woods and walking towards the house or the other way around, because they all stand perfectly still everytime i watch

i'm beginning to be a bit afraid that we won't be able to see the northern lights very well from here. all the lights from the city sort of make the sky look fuzzy... that's worrying me, because i really really like watching the northern lights...

latest news:

* had to wear gloves when i biked to work for the first time today, and it's been an autumn-ish feeling all day even though the sun has been shining
* put away the sun chairs, the hammock and the garden furniture for the winter
* had dinner in the garden
* tommy started mowing the lawn, but ran out of gas after a while
* i cleaned the downstairs windows (that's a big deal. i normally don't clean windows unless i have to because i'm moving. big growing up sign)
* let two of the geraniums move in (the windows have been flower-less so far, as the flowers have been living in the garden over summer)

now i'm going to watch idol on tv. i don't really like it, because seeing all those young people full of dreams and expectations being ridiculed and having their hopes killed is so sad... but at the same time i can't not see it when i hear tommy watching. so, my way of dealing with it is to decide that they must all be actors, and that it's all a big show. maybe not true, but it makes it a bit less painful to watch.

home from another karate lesson, feeling a bit frustrated. reasons for the frustration (in random order):
* my clothes didn't make the swishing sound as the real karate clothes did
* i didn't quite get the finishing kata, and i hate it when i don't get things
* i feel like i've dislocated a joint in my behind, where i don't even think there is a joint
* the computer is slow, and i want to watch ernst on tv

a friend of mine, her two daughters and their big little dog just left.

it's been a nice day, with talking, chasing cats, running around in the wet grass, finding a plastic bag with old dolls that my mother had saved and brought here a month ago, lunch (flygande jakob, which according to the biggest little girl was horrible. apparently you don't give children food with bananas in..., didn't know that), a walk, a visit to a playground i've never tried before (it was really nice, and there were no kids (except for the ones we had with us). i prefer playgrounds without kids. the swings were too low, though, which is a big fault in a playground), dinner at a restaurant in town (i had pizza, the others had hamburgers. dinner with very small children in "fancy" restaurants turned out to be great fun! the smallest little girl turned her face into something that looked like a pizza, and the biggest little girl managed to turn the floor into something that looked like a buffe), dessert at home (we didn't get that one right either... apparently you don't give cake with carrots in to little girls (or at least you don't tell them there are carrots in it). even though we had been eating more or less all day the girls looked really relieved when they finally got into the car and could get their biscuits out to chew on:).

it's been over a year since i last saw them, even though they live only about 110 km away... but we promised (again) that we would see each other more often.
