born to be cruising

yesterday i after worked for the first time with my new colleagues. after some food and some beer (not for me, i was driving home) and some music-nostalgia for all different ages ("play number threeeee" was shouted more and more loudly from the older members of the party the more beer they had. they were referring to a sketch about football by erik törnkvist. not even music... and the sketch wasn't even half as fun as it was watching the two men who loved it almost falling down on the floor with laughter everytime they heard it :). people started dropping off early, and when we were only 7 left we decided to go cruising in a beautiful desoto fire flite from -57. and i was the only one who hadn't had too much beer to drink so i got to drive it. driving old american cars must be the meaning of life! the others seemed to enjoy it too, and the most repeatedly uttered phrase from the back seat was "i loooove riding american cars drinking beer". the silly little phone refuses to send or upload the picures i took, so you'll get to see them later. unfortunately there's no flash in the cameraphone, otherwise i'd have a nice picture of 6 of my colleagues peeing by the side of the långsele road :)  ¶ 6:34 PM

  i found this picture when i googled for "pink dog" at work today (it was work, i promise! i needed a pink dog for a very important task i was working on), and i fell in love with it. isn't she lovely? she's now the wallpaper on my computer at work  ¶ 10:56 PM

  the husband is out in the garden, building a chicken-home. i guess one or two of you might think i'm to blame for this, having brought home some ugly birds i've found in the park or something. but i'm not. at least not much... i only told him one of my colleagues asked if anyone wanted chickens, and apparently the answer to that question was "we do, we do!!!". he is now planning and building and talking about chickens. and the other day when i said that maybe we didn't have to rush it, we could take it slowly and get us some birds next summer, he just looked at me as if there was something wrong with me. so i guess we're having chickens soon too.

correction: he wasn't buildning a chicken-home, but a flower bed for my flowers. i'm still only partly to blame, though. i didn't tell him to build me a flower bed, i only said i thought the old one was ugly :)  ¶ 7:35 PM

  oh, i almost forgot: the new colleagues have started showing that they like me now. when i came to work this morning someone had taped my mouse. and at lunch they made fun of my lunch box.  ¶ 12:37 PM

  yesterday i was on a conference. there was one good and one bad thing about conferencing in a company with more than 90%men.
the good thing: the ladies' toilet was never occupied
the bad thing: no singing and dancing in the evening, just standing around tables and drinking beer  ¶ 10:49 AM

 
i think we're going to have a puppy...

at doctor jessica's party this weekend we met bob's breeders, who told me they had pups, and one in particular was sweet and kind and loved sitting in people's laps. i didn't ask more about him, as i didn't think i wanted a puppy (i like dogs better when they are over 8 moths old). but when we came home i looked at their website, and found out that:

* the pups are born on my birthday
* their father's "family name" is aziz - bob's given name was azizazbab
* they are really really cute

i still didn't think i wanted one, but when i talked to other people about it i found out that:

* tommy didn't mind having a peeing little puppy in our home
* the sisters would love to come a few weeks each to wipe up puppy-pee
* the boss wouldn't mind if i brought a pup to work
* the colleague closest to my office has been nagging me about getting an office-dog since we started
* a friend/soon-to-be-ex-colleague is probably going to have a puppy this summer, so we could go puppy training together

...and suddenly i can't find a single reason *not* to get a puppy anymore...  ¶ 7:41 PM

we went to her dissertation party the other day, and it was very nice seeing her and other friends again. the doctor sara and i decided that the girls should get together again in a few weeks. niiiice :)  ¶ 6:13 PM

  reindeer are funny people. they seem to have been created with too big feet, so they all look like silly clowns when they walk.

we've spent the easter with the family in law. today we went on a sledge behind a snowmobile, which was supposed to be nice and cosy but there was something wrong with the sledge so it fell over. having a little nephew in the lap and realising that you are soon going to fall was a bit scary, but i told him we were going to make a somersault and he just had to hold on to me and keep his arms and legs in and it would be really exciting. fortunately it worked out fine, and he was laughing even though we landed in a mixture of reindeer poo and snow and water (not a very good smelling mixture at all). the brother in law's girlfriend had the little baby niece in her lap, and she was in shock and not very happy and friendly at all during the rest of the day, though.  ¶ 8:56 PM
